Abstract Submission Guidelines
The Department of the Interior Secretarial Order No. 3289, Addressing the Impacts of Climate Change on America’s Water, Land, and Other Natural and Cultural Resources encourages a DOI-wide approach to climate change. This conference will provide USGS scientists opportunities to hear from the Department of the Interior, the USGS Office of Global Change, other DOI agencies, and national and international organizations about their program goals, strategic directions, and science needs.
We will showcase current USGS Global Change science and explore options to coordinate research plans within the national and international context. USGS scientists will also learn about implementing the USGS Science Strategy through the USGS Science Planning Process.
Abstracts are solicited that address the following five areas:
- Paleo-reconstructions of climate change and ecological responses
- Global change effects on ecosystems and linkages among water, soils, biota, and land use
- Incorporating global change science into resource management decisions
- Modeling and projection of resource response to global change
- Results or status of projects funded through the Request for Proposals (RFP) process
Abstracts will be compiled and distributed to all meeting attendees and will be posted on a Permanent URL (PURL) and available internally and externally. Abstracts must be reviewed in accordance with USGS Fundamental Science Practices (FSP) guidance available at the following website http://internal.usgs.gov/fsp/index.html.
Abstract Selection Criteria
All proposals and abstracts submitted will be reviewed and evaluated based on how well they fit into the Conference goals as well as their relevance to the Focus Areas.
We urge authors to synthesize their global change research in a single abstract. If you feel your research topics cannot be combined you may submit a second abstract; however, your second submission will only be considered if space is available.
