June 7-11, 2010

Scientists and managers from all Department of the Interior (DOI) Bureaus, national and international Federal, State, and local agencies, academic institutions, and non-governmental organizations are encouraged to participate.

The 3rd USGS Modeling Conference will focus on the development and application of analytical and theoretical models and data availability that support managing the Nation’s resources and help protect lives and property.

This conference solicits presentations on development, use, assumptions, data resources, and applications of models for a diverse range of spatial and temporal scales. The agenda will include keynote speakers, oral and poster sessions, workshops, panel discussions, and field trips designed to encourage collaboration among the modeling and management communities.

There is no registration fee to attend the conference.

Conference Goals

  • Advance development and application of models
  • Provide tools that address management issues
  • Present state of the art models ranging from individual phenomena to integrated systems
  • Foster a working community among scientists and managers

Conference Tracks

The conference is organized along two tracks supporting DOI priorities and the strategic directions of the USGS Science Strategy:

  • Track 1: Modeling as a tool for scientific discovery and decision making.
  • Track 2: Development of models, tools, techniques, and frameworks and methods for model output, preservation, and publication.

Conference Themes

The conference themes encompass DOI priorities and the strategic directions of the USGS Science Strategy (www.usgs.gov/science_strategy):

  1. Understanding Ecosystems and Restoring America’s Treasured Landscapes
  2. Climate Change and Impact
  3. New Energy Frontier and Minerals for America
  4. A National Hazards, Risk, and Resilience Assessment Program
  5. Role of Environment and Wildlife in Human Health
  6. A Water Census of the United States
  7. New Methods of Investigation and Discovery
Submissions

Abstracts for the Conference must be submitted online only at Geological Society of America’s website: http://gsa.confex.com/gsa/2010MO/cfp.epl

Submit an abstract that addresses one of the technical session topics or the Conference goals and themes in general. General abstracts are equally vital to completing our Conference program.
